For some people, no animal should be sleeping on the bed but think about it, how dirty can an indoor cat who sleeps on the couch all day and gives himself a thorough “going over” after every meal and trip to the potty be? I cannot however testify on behalf of his breath but that’s not my point and I digress. 

I mean, What gives? He’s been sleeping with me since he was a kitten. So, now that he’s turned 12, he’s all grown up? [Note: 12 years old for a cat is 64 years old for a human].  I couldn’t help thinking of Paul McCartney singing,  ”When I’m Sixty-Four”.

 Curious to find out where the “old man” slept, I did some snoping.  He now sleeps in a tiny space located in a corner of my bedroom behind the laundry hamper. Perhaps fabric softener still has something to do with this. I guess I should be happy that the ankle biting space hog found his own spot and more than a little miffed that he commandeered some towels to sleep on, but what the hell. He’s still close by; I can still hear him snoring. The lion has found his den.

Just after watching my favorite episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Dooku Captured, and not very eager to go out into the “bright light”, I started to channel surf.  *Sigh*. Two hundred and fifty channels and nothing to…wait a minute, what’s this? Turner Classic Movie Channel (TCM) is re-broadcasting an interview of Bette Davis on The Dick Cavett Show. The woman looks like a movie star-old school-mink hat, black dress, diamond brooch, matching diamond bracelet and a cigarette. I’m not a fashion maven but I swear she’s wearing Chanel. She was natural, down-to-earth and don’t let me forget, funny.  Before I realized, I had watched the entire program and I am so glad I did because afterwards, TCM showed several of her movies:

• Marked Woman- they cut her, they kill her sister but she gets them in the end
• Dark Victory- socialite/heiress gets a brain tumor. *sigh* don’t you just wish?
• Now,Voyager- shows us that therapy works

Later that evening, Turner Classic Movies showed two more- Deception and The Letter.

Usually I watch the animated, kung fu, blow a lot of things up, high body count entertainment available on cable television but let me tell you, Bette Davis will shoot you in a heartbeat.  I’ll be watching a lot more of her movies.

Curiosity still piqued, I went to  Marketing Charts. where they chart all things media. Here, they report on how the  news of Michael Jackson’s death overwhelmed the Internet. Twitter crashed. Google was “crippled”. The Earth stood still…Well you get the idea.

I am amazed at Michael Jackson’s impact on the world. His albums and songs are still being downloaded at a steady rate. Entertainment Weekly magazine categorized Michael Jackson’s Number Ones as a catalog album this week in order for another artist to hit Number 1 on their Top 20 (MJs albums have been in their Top 20 since June 25th).

Call it media over saturation or information overload. Some people (not naming names) wish the press would just move on. It doesn’t matter because I still can’t help but smile when I hear “Rock With You” coming out of someone’s car stereo.

I wrote a number of posts offline because my proofing was, what my late Aunt Abby, a retired English teacher would call, appalling. The problem with writing ‘offline’ was, I wasn’t posting anything. These mini-essays would wind up in a folder on my hard drive waiting to be edited and proofed.  I was thinking that it wouldn’t be fair for my friends to read poorly edited posts but when I look back, most of the comments received were about misspellings. What I got was an accidental editorial staff. Now mind you, I don’t leave these gaffs in my posts on purpose. I do spell check however, in my excitement to publish,I don’t give the  post the thorough going over it deserves. My bad.

Another thing  that changed the writing -I now have an office with a desk and a lamp and a pencil cup-the whole bit. Before converting one of the bedrooms into an office, I worked in the living room, from the coffee table, seated in front of the TV making wry comments about what I was watching . I even created another blog called IDIOTBOXOFICE to house the content of my TV rants. Alas, since creating the office, I’ve been  missing opportunities such as commenting on an Animal Planet program called In the Lion’s Den and the trailer for a movie called The Orphan.

I thought I had writer’s block or something. But fear not. I am back!  I needed a dose of “fuck it” to get rid of the blockage; enrolled in a writing class and plan to attend a couple of workshops to stay on track. In the meantime, as alluded to in the title of this post: Once More Into The Blog!

I remember my first Jackson 5 concert at Madison Square Garden. Tickets were $7.50 for Mezzanine seats and the Commodores were their opening act. The Jackson 5 played all the favorites; girls were throwing pillows, stuffed teddy bears and panties on stage and despite all of the screaming, I could hear every word sung that night. 

Years passed and I moved on. I started listening to Jimi Hendrix, The Who and Return to Forever. By the mid eighties, Micheal Jackson had become a solo act. When I went to the dance club, it was guaranteed that any cut from the Thriller album would put people on the dance floor. You had no choice. The groove was all that. 

As the 90s rolled around, Michael’s weirdness overshadowed his genius. His records still had a groove and he co-produced We Are The World.

I didn’t love everything Michael did musically however, I do remember growing up with him-the first single, the first album, the first concert. He will always live in my memories and I will miss him. *Sigh* The “What’s next? ” factor is gone.

Prior to his death, Michael Jackson was about to embark on tour in Europe-50 concerts sold out within minutes of their announcement. Tell me, Who’s bad?

The two hostesses, Kim and Aggie, come to this sty, I mean, home; they inspect and clean it up and take samples to send to a lab. This house was so filthy, the lab results from the bathtub revealed a bacteria of the flesh eating, Mask of the Red Death variety. That’s right death would be imminent if they didn’t clean it up. Lord only knows it could have spread across the country wiping out men, women, children and farm animals.

On a positive note, I did find the cleaning tips to be pretty cool as this show emphasizes using regular household items:

• Cleaning silver with toothpaste
• Mixing lemon juice, water and baking soda to remove carpet stains and
• Using mayonnaise to remove stickers, etc

In some perverse way I like the program. However, I do not recommend snacking while it’s on.

There was someone out there who has invented a state of the art, bleeding edge (no pun intended but let’s keep it anyway)hedge trimmer. What makes it funny is the seriousness of it all. The voice over announcer makes it sound like the second coming. It’s cuts, it shreds, it collects. Ugh. The time and energy spent to make sure you can get a flat hedge. I’m happy people in the suburbs are happy. Perhaps I’ll pass this information along to our grounds keepers. The city should have this technology.

I missed about an hour of the movie  but at least I didn’t miss Lee Van Cleef. I almost forgot he was in this movie.  His line: “I told you to wait  until they hit the ground.” I’m not even going to explain that one.

 Chuck Norris (Scott James) is a retired karate champion hired to protect a rich woman who is being followed by ninjas. Lee Van Cleef  heads a security agency; he too is watching her but she gets  killed anyway. Turns out these ninjas were trained by a childhood friend who is running a secret training camp for terrorists in South America. Chuck’s protege (AJ) is pissed that this woman is dead and feels  Chuck isn’t being as  proactive as  he could be so AJ sets off to find this camp on his own. He goes about doing this by walking up to people in broad daylight and asking, ” Do you know where the secret camp is?”  Chuck, on the other hand, is a  little more surreptitious than his young friend. Chuck gets there by plane while the protege humps it down there on the crappiest conveyances available- just think: old trunk , dust and chickens. Anyway, this training camp is run by Seikura, the childhood friend.  This guy is a badass, and like all badasses, he has a badass evil minion- a masked dude who hisses just when he’s about to strike the killing blow- a super ninja if you will.  Anyway, Chuck kills him. A riot ensues because the trainees haven’t  exactly been treated well down at Camp Ninja. Chuck and Seikura battle until dawn. Chuck prevails. The end.

 I’m glad I watched this movie. Once again good triumphs over evil and thanks to this program’s advertisers, I know way more than I need to about products for natural male enhancement.
